I write this, heartbroken, tears streaming down my face for a little girl I only just met a couple of weeks ago. A little girl I've only held once; a tiny little miracle I barely knew but whose story I had read several times. Madeline Spohr passed away today.
I just can't believe it. I can't fathom the heartbreak Heather and Mike must be going through. Please leave them a comment and if you can, donate to March of Dimes in Maddie's name - a charity they have been very passionate about.
Update: The Spohr's website is having some difficulty maintaining all the traffic. This is nothing but a testament to the power of the internet and to the number of lives little Maddie has touched. Please continue to check back. As of now, Maddie's March of Dimes page is still up, so please go visit and donate if you can.
My heart is broken too for a beautiful little girl that I knew only from reading her story. I tried to leave a comment for Heather & Mike but the links are down. I would like to send a message to them some how if you have contact info for them.

It is really a sad day. I watched it all unfold yesterday on twitter and when I woke up this morning, I was devastated. The internet is such a strange place. We come to "know" so many more people than we would ordinarily. Sometimes it's wonderful. Sometimes it kicks you in the heart. I donated, too. I wish I could do more.

I have only been reading about little Maddie for the past month or so when the Sphors website showed up in the 'Top Recommendations' on google reader. Since then, I loved reading about this joyful little girl with such an infectious smile. My heart stopped this morning when I read the horrible news. I am so very sorry for the family and what they are going through. I hope you can pass along my sympathies. It is also amazing to watch all the support that is happening throughout the internet..the donations, posts, thoughts, prayers etc. especially considering most people (including myself) didnt know the family in real life.

I just scrolled through her pictures on the site. God, what a beautiful little soul. I'm heartsick. And her parents, how devastated they must be...
And you, great work on the SoCal walk. So cool that you took the lead and are organizing everyone on the West Coast. Well done, my friend.
